There is a Light in Me
Whether in daytime or in nighttime
I always carry inside a light
In the middle of noise and turmoil
I carry silence
Always, I carry light and silence

Meet Mary

A Seeker

My greatest challenges in life have been my greatest teachers shaping me to the person I am today, offering holistic integrative programs based on ancient wisdom and modern science that assist others who are seeking to experience their wholeness and thrive—mind, body, heart, and spirit.

As a young adult, severe anxiety and feelings of not being worthy enough propelled me into seeking answers for what was ‘wrong’ with me. I was guided to learn about and experience a variety of integrative holistic treatments and therapies for my healing journey from family addiction, my addictive behaviors, and feelings of anxiety and unworthiness.

From Federal Employee to Holistic Therapist

At mid-life, I experienced a healing crisis, a tipping point in which I made a huge leap to resign from a successful 17-year career in the federal government to begin practicing massage therapy full time. Over time, I began offering and teaching many of the same integrative holistic treatments that supported my own healing to my clients—reiki energy healing, yoga, meditation, and mindfulness.

Becoming a Teacher of Mindfulness for Addiction and Recovery

In 2021, the sudden passing of my 26-year-old niece Anna Elizabeth Carter from a fentanyl overdose after a year of sobriety was a wake-up call for me. About the same time, I received an email from the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness offering teacher training for a fairly new (since 2010) innovative program that combines mindfulness, meditation and cognitive behavior therapy practices to support individuals seeking a path to recovery from addiction and the prevention of relapse. My friend Adriane calls these coincidences ‘basherts’—blessings, the right thing and the right time for the greatest and highest good of all. I felt that in my heart.

Today

Right now, I am spreading the world and teaching this transformative program for those seeking and needing a new approach to their own addiction and recovery. Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention for Addictive Behaviors may be a great fit for you at this time in your life and I want you to have access to the program. That’s why I am offering it on Live on Zoom. I would love it if you could help me spread the word by sharing my website with loved ones, friends, and anyone who you feel might need this kind of support.

I also lead a free Community Mindfulness Meditation Group which meets Live on Zoom on Sunday nights. It’s a gentle and welcome place to learn how to meditate and practice mindfulness for your wellbeing while in the support of a great community.

And I continue to see clients for integrative massage therapy/reiki treatments in private practice and teach Usui/Holy Fire Reiki to individuals and groups upon request.

What Brings Me Great Joy

Spending time with family and dear friends brings me great joy. And I also cherish my time alone, in silent retreat, outside in nature hiking on the trails, or running the hills at Loch Raven Reservoir. And you can always find me with my hands in the dirt, planting something and strength training, helping me to stay grounded and present. And of course, meditation and mindfulness. Every day.

Warmly,
Mary
